Borehole water treatment – poultry farm, Shropshire.
This borehole water treatment supplies a poultry farm and is used to supply all the chickens on the farm with drinking water. High levels of bacteria meant that a UV and pre-filter were required.
This is a simple install consisting of only two stages – pre-filter and UV. Once bacteria free, the water then continues to the chicken sheds where it is used to fill the drinkers.
The function of the UV pre-filter is to reduce any particulate passing through the UV chamber. Sediment is removed as the particulate can create shadows in the UV chamber. In other words, by removing the sediment you are removing the shadows and giving the bacteria nowhere to “hide”. This means the bacteria will be targeted by the UV light and destroyed giving you safe and, most importantly, bacteria free, drinking water.
Borehole water treatment is very important when using a borehole to supply farm animals. Despite what many think, poor water quality can drastically affect the quality of farm produce.

pH Correction
Water in which the pH is below 7 is acidic. Acidic water accelerates corrosion in pipe work, causes staining of baths, sinks and other appliances and can leave a distinctive ‘metallic’ taste to the water.

The starting point for any water treatment design is a representative water analysis that is complete and accurate. Using a UKAS Accredited Laboratory. Two of our engineers have undergone formal training and are now certified to carry out water sampling to UKAS accredited standards.
